Important Information
Visitors to the camp who use the way in from Tesco's will see that the fields have been ploughed. Don't be alarmed as the farmer who is renting the land from the Somerset's is very friendly and not a fan of Tesco's and we have agreed to protect the crops he is growing. So if you see anyone straying from the path or otherwise damaging the crops correct them in a fitting manner. Please pass this on.

Dear friends, comrades and curious onlookers
From 1pm, Tuesday 1st May until the trees are saved! we
invite you to a day - month, year or for how long you want to stay - of
culture and pleasure at Titnore Woods protest camp. We hope to offer such marvelous
activities as spontaneous musical interaction, topical discussions, campfire
cooking, tree climbing, sun worshipping, outdoor swimming and possibly the not
unprecedented spectacle of aerial walkway boxing. In this way we hope not only
to provide a memorable day of relaxed comradeship, but also to reinvigorate the
camp itself with a new generation of supporters. Almost a year from its early
morning beginnings on 28th May 2006, when at 6am the first piece of witty
sarcasm was flung in the direction of landowner Clem Somerset (boo!), the
protest camp has achieved partial victory and saved 210 beautiful and unique
trees from destruction. 55 trees are still under threat, including some
particularly striking large oaks and beeches, habitat for countless species of
insects and their famous abseiling larvae.
You are very welcome to stay overnight in one of our many structures, both
ground- and tree-based (or even more welcome for a few months). Bring
instruments, a sleeping bag, a surprise and a sense of fun and adventure. We
like vegan cakes. :) For the walkway boxing we will need to borrow boxing gloves
and climbing harnesses etc if anyone has them.
Please let others know about the event.
However only folk with saving the area at heart are invited. Overbearing,
aggressive behaviour is not welcome. ALRIGHT?!
DIRECTIONS:
This is the preferred route.
By train get off at Durrington station, walk north about 150mtrs to the Strand Parade shops and catch the 'Pulse' bus that stops regularly around the corner at either end of the shops . Take the bus to Tesco store New Rd West Durrington. Note. There are several Bus stops at either end, check the time table to make sure you're catching the correct Bus.
When at Tesco walk to the very end of their car park, around the chrome barrier and straight into the field. Now walk across the field, (not through the farmers crops) towards the hedge/trees in the distance, then into the next field through a gap in the hedge.
By now you will likely be able to see benders / tree houses in the distance. Total distance from the car park is about 500mtrs, it takes about 8mins. See the map above.
Remember to wear old clothes and waterproof boots / wellies if wet.
Please note. If
you get lost DON'T knock up local residents for directions late at night. Their
support is important to us. Just phone 07913
534 083
RSVP The Camp Titnore Irregulars.
=======================================================================================================
A new phone number has been announced for the camp - 0791 3534083. The old
number no longer works so please change your records accordingly.
The camp is appealing for donations of polypropylene rope. Any size is
useful but 10mm is most in need, to replace walkways that have been up a long
time. There is also a need for strong canvas or tarpaulin sheeting, an axe,
panel saw and adjustable spanners.
ALSO A BICYCLE repair man is being sought by the Titnore campers. There are a couple of useful pedal-powered means of transport on the site, but they need fixing. If anyone has the skill, the kit, the time and the inclination, it would be great if they could pop down and help sort them out.
