WORTHING SEAFRONT PROMENADE CYCLE ROUTE
BIKE EVENT SUNDAY 22nd JUNE starting at 11:00am

Worthing Borough Council cabinet members will debate on Monday 16th June a report on the future of the promenade cycle route and the proposed six-month trial of shared-use of the prom (cyclists and pedestrians).

On Sunday 22nd June Sustrans invites cyclists of all ages and all abilities to show that they want a safe, off-road seafront cycle route to the west of Worthing town centre. Moreover, to show that they are committed to making it safe for all users of the prom, something that has been achieved successfully in seaside towns across Britain. The event might be a celebration or a protest depending on the outcome of next Monday’s Worthing cabinet meeting!

The event on Sunday 22nd June starts on the seafront promenade opposite Heene Road at 11:00am. Cyclists will WALK with bikes, banners & balloons east along the Prom to Splash Point where route 2 of the National Cycle Network currently finishes.

At Splash Point there will be a petition calling on Worthing Borough Council to make a clear commitment to completing the seafront cycle route across the borough. There will be a free ‘Dr Bike’ cycle safety check, free cycle training for young children and a Sustrans stall with free maps and guides.

Cyclists are invited to make a day of it and take the off-road cycle path to Lancing (2.5 miles), Widewater Lagoon (4 miles) and Shoreham (5 miles). This is one of the best cycle facilities on the South Coast, with 4 miles of traffic-free cycling making it ideal for family cycling.

Encourage all the cyclists you know to come along! Start by forwarding this email to them.
