Dear Mr Askew.

I wonder if you are concerned by the controversy that is raging over Bryant Homes, a member of the Taylor Woodrow group, and their involvement in the West Durrington Development on the outskirts of Worthing West Sussex.

Phase one of the development would involve construction of 850 houses, together with some shops and supporting units. This will take place on a Greenfield site containing unique ancient woodland, rare plant and animal species, together with Roman and Saxon remains.

As you may already know from Television and Press coverage, there is a massive on-going demonstration involving activists who have built a ‘Swampy’ type tree top village on the route of the proposed access road to the site with the material and financial support of local residents angered by the damage this development will do. In the past hundreds of local residents demonstrated and closed a main road for several hours – one that will be widened as part of the development. I should also mention that the local papers are full of letters condemning this development. There is then of course the sensation that Heron, your partner in the consortium, is headed up by none other than Gerald Ronson, jailed for his part in the Guinness insider share dealing scandal.

In the circumstances, you might fear that if this development were to proceed, your company could be involved in a battle with protestors reminiscent of Newbury etc, not to mention a scandal. It maybe the case of course, that the adverse publicity will have an impact on your company’s share price and prospects.

May I suggest that you clarify the position, in fact determine if your company should be involved in such a controversial development?

Yours sincerely.

Etc
